Mullite mainly includes two types which are the ordinary and
high-purity mullite ceramic. The ordinary has the lower purity raw
material, its components include A2O3, SiO2, TiO2, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO,
Na2O, K2O, and other impurities, so it can be generally applied as
refractories for less demanding on high-temperature strength
occasions.
In terms of high-purity mullite sintered by the high purity SiO2
Al2O3 powders, It has the advantage with excellent refractory,
uniform expansion, excellent thermal shock resistance, high load
softening point, small high-temperature creep, high hardness, the
chemical resistance. Especially the high-performance high-purity
mullite ceramics, at 1300 ℃ when bending strength of 570MPa,
fracture toughness KIC of 5.7MPa, 1.6 times higher than normal,
such as the temperature increases, the strength and toughness only
do not decay but greatly improved, high purity mullite ceramics as
a high-temperature material excellent material properties.
Main characteristics of the ceramic setter plates
1. High melting point, up to 1850℃
2. High service temperature, up to 1800℃
3. Low thermal expansion coefficient: 5.3×10-6
4. Good flatness with uniform shrinkage at the firing process
3. Chemical stability, even in a harsh environment.
