    Main characteristics of Metallized alumina ceramics

    ● Min. electric resistance and vacuum tightness, and less than 1×10-11 Pa•m3 / s

    ● High mechanical strength, flexural strength can be up to 338 MPa

    Description of metallized alumina ceramics

    Jointing ceramics to metals or ceramics to ceramics has been extensively used in many electronics, electrical, high vacuum technology, medical technology, and sensor technology. Brazing is often the preferred method for joining process because of its capability for joining dissimilar materials, high reliability and precision production tolerance. To join ceramics to ceramics or to metal, the critical issue is the poor wettability of ceramics by filler alloys. This problem is usually solved by treating the ceramic surface to give them metallic characteristics. Then a metallic layer will be applied on the ceramic end surface, cylindrical surface or a specific section of the ceramic body. The most widely known metallization process is the molybdenum and tungsten process.

    In order to enhance the wettability of the solder at the brazing/bonding process, a preferred metal coating is always deposited as requested following by Mo/Mn or W layer. Also, the coating will prevent the metallization into oxidizing.
